Dear Schoolcraft and Delta County Parents,
Star Power 2010 was a great success! The Delta-Schoolcraft group of 46 joined over 3000 more and gathered at the captiol in Lansing to tell our legislators how we feel about our children’s future in Michigan. Representatives Nerat and Lindberg and Senator Prusi listened to our concerns. We will continue our advocacy efforts all summer long. All parents and caregivers in Delta County are invited to attend:
Delta County Parent Coalition Meeting
5:00 reception/light dinner - meeting begins at 5:30pm on
July 8, 2010 at Delta Schoolcraft ISD, Escanaba

We offer free books and onsite childcare. Please join us and help make a difference! RSVP to:

For parents: 6 facts about applying sunscreen – Source The Washington Post, May 25, 2010
Most sunscreens need time to react with substances in your skin before they become effective. Be sure to apply them at least 20 minutes before you go out in the sun. -- Sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide create an invisible barrier to UV rays on top of your skin and start working immediately. -- SPF stands for sun protection factor and determines how long that sunscreen will allow you to stay in the sun without burning. Use at least an SPF 15. -- The Environmental Protection Agency puts out a national UV index forecast map, with sun protection advice, every day. You can even put in your own Zip code! Go to http://www.epa.gov/sunwise/uvindex.html. -- Sun-protective clothing, which has a sunscreen in the fabric, really works (but can be expensive). -- SunGuard is a laundry additive that gives your clothes long-lasting sun protection when you add a packet to your wash.

The Delta County Parent Coalition has awarded

Elmer’s County Market
With the Family Friendly Five Star Award.

The members of the parent coalition want to recognize local businesses and organizations that are family friendly and distinguish them with an appreciation award. Mr. Mike Dagenais was presented the award at a luncheon on May 14, 2010. Some of the comments shared by parents about Elmer’s Market were: “The staff is always friendly to our family.” “The store is always clean.” “The service is great.” “The bathrooms are clean.” “The employees are nice.”

Congratulations!
